Summary of Daily Weather
Date Being Summarized: 14 April 1995

An upper low persists over eastern Canada and the northeastern US, while
troughing develops over the west. In between, an upper ridge over the
Mississippi valley was being molested by the first of several shortwaves
rotating through, and carving out, the western longwave. By Friday evening
this first shortwave was lifting into Nebraska and the Dakotas, with a
deepening surface low over western Neb. The result for the VORTEX area
was a strong southerly surface flow, but moisture return was slow. Trough
number 2 entered the Plateau region, followed by rather vigorous trough number 3
which dropped due south along the Pacific NW coast overnight. It is this
latter trough, which also has a kicker upstream, that promises to make life
a little more interesting for VORTEX early next week.
